Cornwallis Beach


Cornwallis Beach

A safe swimming spot for young families. Lovely picnic spot with shady pohutukawa trees.There are no shops at Cornwallis - best to pick up any refreshments in Titirangi or Huia Store (see below). The beach has two entrances - The main entrance and then a second (Cornwallis Wharf) goes to Firebreak Road end of the beach and on to the wharf from where locals like to fish. Cornwallis has toilet facilities.

Kaitarakihi Beach


Kaitarakihi Beach

Gorgeous private bay with creamy sand (no oyster shells) and grassy picnic spot. Limited parking during summer public holiday period. Great view to Manukau Heads. Take second exit after Cornwallis Wharf.

The Whatipu area is a Scientific Reserve, within the Waitakere Ranges, owned by the Department of Conservation and managed on behalf by the Auckland Council Regional Parks. It is a spectacular area of coastal dunes and wetlands.

Great icecreams, takeaway meals or bring a bottle of wine and have a picnic supper in the bayside park opposite with your fish and chips. A charming location with children’s playground nearby.. Follow Huia Road past Cornwallis Wharf. Close to Karamatura Stream

Huia Settlers Museum

Karamatura Valley - beside the community hall, Huia
In a scenic location, this museum follows the history of Huia, Cornwallis, Parau, Laingholm, Whatipu, Manukau Harbour and the Waitakere Ranges. Artifacts, pictures, photos, documents and local history books take you through Maori occupation, timber milling, maritime disasters and settler farming.
Sun 1.30pm - 4.30pm or by appointment

Laingholm Beach Fish and Chips
